SHUIVANA: The Porcelain of Fluid Rebirth
SHUIVANA is a contemporary porcelain brand that weaves together profound philosophy, family legacy, and exceptional craftsmanship. The name carries a triple meaning: “SHUI” (水), meaning water, draws from the Eastern wisdom of the Daoist book 《Dao De Jing》—“water benefits all things without contention”—while also honoring Crystal’s father, whose own name contains the character for “water.” In this way, the brand continues and fulfills her father’s lifelong wish. “VANA” represents Nirvana and rebirth, symbolizing the revival and transcendence of traditional porcelain art in the modern era.
The soul of the brand is its founder, Crystal. A native of Jingdezhen—the centuries-old porcelain capital of the world—she brings a global perspective shaped by her background as a documentary filmmaker and financial journalist, educated at University College London. Through her work as a director and interviewer for national TV station, she has engaged in deep dialogues with influential thinkers worldwide, including former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, former U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, and leading scholars such as Harvard’s Ezra Vogel and William (Bill) Kirby.etc.
Today, Crystal channels this global outlook and profound connection to her heritage into SHUIVANA. It is not only a contemporary tribute to Jingdezhen’s millennia-old craft but also a living practice of her father’s “water-like” philosophy—nourishing all things, bridging tradition and modernity, East and West. Each piece embodies the transmission of skill, the materialization of philosophy, and a familial sentiment that extends beyond the object itself into a universal language.
